I have a passion for helping improve the quality of people’s working lives
I have over twenty-five years’ experience of supporting people in central roles, including social work, supervising, coaching and teaching. As a specialist mentor, I have increased my knowledge and understanding of how to support people who are neurodivergent and those with additional needs.
With one of my clients, I have had the privilege of working with them across the organisation over a period of five years. This means I have been able to help staff at the start of their careers, support them through transitional periods in their lives, and help them through extremely difficult periods as well as watching them grow. When I do this type of work I feel like I have the best job in the world!
I myself was diagnosed with dyslexia when I came to Cardiff to study for a Masters in Social Work in 2005. The late diagnosis became a turning point in my life. I recognised the wider impact dyslexia has and became passionate about making changes to help others who are neurodivergent. Since then, I’ve worked on hundreds of cases about how to best to help support people who have been affected by trauma. I have provided regular supervision and coaching to foster carers, social work students, counsellors, and support workers at a charity organisation.
Getting out of the office helps to clear the mind and think about things differently. It’s a freeing space, so when I can and weather allows, I take my clients out for a walk and talk for our one to one sessions. Being in the outside space is SOO good! I realised recently that the majority of my happiest memories are from when I have been outdoors.
